I am currently in a lot of pain, and very angry. Poor Woody really was doing so well, starting to come out of himself, enjoying life. Then, Solly attacked me then Woody. Woody got away - just - but is now petrified and won't stay in the field. Solly got me in the leg with one hind, but the other hind missed.

There was NO REASON whatsoever.

I really am so upset for Woody.
My leg is immesnely apainful, and injury from a horse has never brought me to tears before.
I don't care about my leg, but I really feel bad for Woody.

My goodness! What on hearth made him do that???? Have you had your leg checked out by the doctor? Did Solly feel threaten by Woody??? Hope you and Woody feel better real soon. Big hugs

Solly has been lovely with Woody, it's very odd. He shoved martin over last week then apparently kicked out as he ran off (after getting a whack across his backside with a pitch-fork handle!!)

Can barely move my leg tonight, he got my thigh.
He really needs to work and needs some firmer handling. We always said his previous oner seems to have let him get away with murder.

Poor you Ruth, I hope the leg is better soon.
Poor Woody I don't blame him for not wanting to be around Solly.
Unfortunately many people think aww cuddly teddy bear when they look horses like Solly or natives and they end up with little respect for people due to being spoilt, hopefully Solly is just testing the boundaries and some more firm handling will learn a bit more respect.
Having been on the receiving end of a couple of unprovoked attacks I know just how scary they are. Hugs.

Sorry to hear that Ruth, sending healing thoughts to you, Woody and Solly, because what ever he did it sounds like he's upset for some reason.
Horses communicate to each other with thier bodies, be it biting (which can be a sign of affection and often is)(you must have seen two horses together gently biting each other), kicking, face pulling etc.
To me it seems they communicate to us in much the same way, but that's only my idea not something I know for sure if you see what I mean.
So, if Solly has started to lash out just lately he's saying something that he's not said before, well it sounds like he's never said it to you anyway.
So I'm guessing he's in a bad mood about something. Well after the winter we've had I don't blame him, not much grass, I'm guessing not a lot of work with all that cold weather and it sounds like he's bored, fed up and just wants things to change.
It could be more than that, do horses get jealous ? I don't know, you say he had other owners, did he have a bad time with a dog way back in his past ? Just reread all your posts and it seems Solly has been nice to Woody, so....
I'll be interested to hear what happens next but mostly I'm guessing we all want to hear that your leg is getting better!!!

Thanks ladies. My leg is painful, but it's obviously not seriously hurt, strangely I have no bruising, but the area is hot and swollen and I can't touch it.

Today things have gone from bad to worse, and right now I just want to give up on equines all together (not actually the equines fault) I also have got to the point I want Martin out of my life.

Sorry to hear about that! I hope your leg gets better soon and Woody will recover from the shock.
I agree with Wendy - Solly want so "say" something. Maybe he is just bored and full of life, and wanted to "play" with you?
Those big horses are sometimes like tiny Shetlands or even dogs - they just forget how big and heavy they are. They need to learn respect - firm but kind.
If solly really wanted to attack you - I think that would have been much more sereous. He caused you "only" a red and swollen leg - another horse would feel much less than you I suppose.
Isn´t there anything to work for him? Some big trees to pull out?(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Maybe he just don´t knows where to go with his power...

Sorry to hear you have been in the wars Ruth, horses will do crazy things. I once had a dog crushed by a pony, I was so scared, she had been around dogs all her life, a never went after dogs since. Luckily Odin was ok after a time at the vets, but its always made me keep dogs and horses well apart. Solly is a big boy and i can totally understand your frustration! as for the other thing.........well you know my feelings on that one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just for sympathy with you, I caught my foot in the chicken fence and went sprawling, grazed my knees and tore my trousers, so be careful now, i dont know if I can cope with any more, lol
